Elevate Your Career in Fire Services: Join the Officer Development Program at FEU!

Do you know or are you a dedicated and passionate fire professional looking to take your career to new heights? The Federation of European Fire Officers (FEU) invites you to explore our Leadership Officer Development Program (ODP), designed to empower and equip aspiring leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in fire services.

At FEU, we understand the pivotal role that leaders play in the fire services sector. The Officer Development Program is crafted to provide a tailored learning experience for fire professionals who aspire to take on leadership roles within their organizations. Whether you're a seasoned officer or a rising star, our program is designed to meet the unique challenges of leading in today's dynamic and complex emergency services landscape.

Learning and professional exchange with your European colleagues is facilitated online, using a variety of learning methods. On completing the program, you will have acquired knowledge and skills you can use in your place of work, and you will have expanded your professional network for future collaboration.

The program is aimed at fire officers who have a minimum of 5 years’ strategic work experience at a senior/executive level. A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution for higher education is required for entry, as well as proficiency in English at the B2/C1 level.

2024 edition

The third edition of ODP takes place 27 - 31 May 2024 and is being organized, facilitated, and hosted by the National Fire Academy (NFA, Brandweeracademie), part of The Netherlands Institute for Public Safety (NIPV) in Arnhem. The participants will have the opportunity to gain insight into strategic topics that are relevant to the fire services in Europe, now and in the future.

Who can participate?

The program is aimed at European fire officers who:

  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ strategic work experience, which means they are responsible for decision-making at that level within their organizations;
  • Have attained a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution for higher education;
  • Can demonstrate proficiency in English (minimum B2 level ) during the intake meetings;
  • Are motivated to learn and work with their European colleagues, focussing on strategic topics.

What is on the ODP 2024 agenda?

The program content takes shape following two main themes that have been inspired by FEU meeting outcomes and international developments. These themes are:

  • Future-proofing the fire services; sustainability is an important theme.
  • Fire services working together, learn from each other on different organisational topics.

Planning and costs

The program on location will take place in Arnhem, The Netherlands from Monday 27th through to Friday 31st May 2024. You travel to The Netherlands on Sunday 26th May 2024. There will be an online meeting in March or April to discuss motivation and backgrounds and participants can share expectations and ask questions about the program. The ODP program ends with a final evaluation meeting a while after the participants have returned to work. The participants will be part of the ODP alumni program. 

The program costs are €3.500,- per participant including all program activities, online and on location, catering and meals and transportation during the program. Hotel accommodation in Arnhem from 26-31st May 2024 for the entire group of participants is arranged and booked by NIPV. This will be added to the invoice (€725 per participant).

ODP Alumni

ODP Class’23 participants

ODP Class’23 participants are offered to join the ODP Alumni network that will create a firm foundation for future collaboration among participants.

A primary and first goal for the ODP Alumni network is to maintain updated and current information of all participants so it is possible in an easy way to stay in contact with ODP peers. Thereby enable ODP participants to create and keep connections in a way that will help with their strategic focus, leadership, and organizational development.

ODP 2024 registration

The next ODP training will take place in the Netherlands in May 2024. On the FEU website you will find more information about content, requirements for participants and practical conditions. Participants from all European countries are welcome, and we hope for a broad representation. If you are looking for development at a strategic level and are curious about cooperation in Europe, then the course is for you!

The course takes place from 27th. to 31st. May 2024.
The last registration deadline is 29th February 2024.

FEU focuses on three main programs

We are FEU, the Federation of European Fire Officers. The FEU is a network of (European) fire officer associations or state fire services united by a (common) profile of shared beliefs, interests, and mutual trust. The FEU aims to be a strong voice for fire and rescue services.
This program offers you the opportunity to gain expert knowledge on current topics relevant to the fire services in Europe, as well as further develop your leadership and communication skills.
The FEU aims to connect with career principal fire and rescue service officers in Europe to exchange best practice and collaborate with other international partners, in initiatives / projects which benefit FEU and public safety in Europe.
