FEU Newsletter March 2008
President's message
This Newsletter shall inform you that the new year has already brought a lot of fruitful contacts with organisations aiming at improving safety for the European citizens, such as EENA, EFA, CTIF, EU-Respond. Fortunately the membership of Slovenia and Belgium will be refreshed while new contacts with the French Fire Service Association could be made.

European Parliament Platform on Civil Protection - meeting, Bruxelles, 13th February 2008

The meeting was held in the ASP building of the European Parliament.
Paulo Casaca (MEP from Portugal) welcomed the audience on behalf of Vittorio Prodi (MEP from Italy) and Demetrios Papadimoulis (MEP from Greece) who later also participated in the discussion. European Parliament Platform on Civil Protection draft manifesto.
Earlier this year in July, the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy and the Greek Prime Minister,
Kostas Karamanlis, called for closer European co-operation on Civil Protection. This was
endorsed by Commissioner Stavros Dimas. While the ideas of Michel Barnier on enhancing
the European civil protection mechanism and creation of a European Civil Protection Force
are now being re-visited, far too few of us at Parliament are aware of the actual needs of
Europe’s Emergency responders and the technical solutions that are on hand to address
those needs... more
